The Victoria Falls

The pounding water crashes into the abyss below. The rush of a majestic mist rises into the air with each ton of falling water. The mist can be seen some 30 kilometers away, acting as a messenger that reveals the secret of what lies ahead. In 1855, Doctor David Livingstone, upon seeing the Falls for the first time, penned, "Scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight." The breathlessness of that statement alone speaks volumes. Standing 111 meters (300 feet) high, in peak season over 9,000,000 liters per second cascade over the rocky cliffs. The sound is exhilarating, the sight is astounding and the experience is breathtaking. The local tribes call it "Mosi-Oa-Tunya", the "Smoke that Thunders!" That is... the VICTORIA FALLS. A World Heritage site, one of the seven natural wonders of the world, a guided tour around Victoria Falls is a must for any visitor to the region. This is why you are here.

Take a walk throught the knife edge bridge for a spectacular view up the main gorge and of the eastern cataract. A walk down the stairs to the Boiling Pot provide an interesting view from the base of the falls and the falls bridge over the gorge.

Downstream of the falls, the river has carved a tortuous route through the soft basalt rock, forming a deep gorge in a tight zigzag course for some eight kilometres. This is a result of the repeated cutting back of the line of the falls and the successive formation and abandonment of seven previous broad waterfalls, a process that has taken about 100,000 years. Truly a once in a lifetime tour.

Walking Safaris, Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park

The Park encompasses the Falls and stretches some 12 kms along the riverbanks of the upper Zambezi. White Rhino, Buffalo, Hippo, Crocodile, Giraffe, Zebra and various Antelope species flourish here. Elephant is also prolific, visiting the park by swimming back and forth across the river.

Experience breath-taking encounters with the endangered White Rhino while walking in the untamed Zambian bush of Livingstone’s Mosi O Tunya National Park. The best possible way for game viewing, experience the bush the African Way.

Canoeing on the Upper Zambezi

Float down the Zambezi River above the Victoria Falls in inflatable canoes. A guide will direct you through small channels and grade-2 rapids, looking at some amazing African wildlife. Probably the best way to appreciate the beauty, peace and wildlife of the Zambezi River above the Falls is to paddle slowly downstream in a canoe with a wildlife guide. Watch the Pied Kingfisher hover and dive, listen to the haunting call of the fish eagle and the grunts of the hippo, see elephant, buffalo, and other animals come down to drink and explore the islands and waterways along the route.

"Flight of Angels" over the Victoria Falls, Helicopter, Microlight, Fixed Wing

To put the Victoria Falls into true perspective, they must really be seen from the air. The sheer size and grandeur of the spectacle becomes all more clear from above. The huge Zambezi River flowing slowly south with hippos and crocodiles clearly visible in the shallow waters, elephant quietly browsing on bright green islands as the water spreads across the full width of a great rent in the earth before crashing over the lip in a burst of spray and then squeezing into a narrow, foaming, blast of water rushing down the zig zag funnel of the gorges. Got to see this from the view of angels.
